Meet the Artist
Thelma Dickens
All my life I have dabbled in crafts, trying many different techniques.
In the 1980’s I opened a craft shop in Sittingbourne, which meant I had to
learn more about certain crafts of which embroidery seemed to be the one
most customers wanted to buy and often needed help – so I had to teach
myself to show them! I was also doing upholstery at the time and found
myself stripping and recovering in between selling all my other crafts.
I then decided to take a 4 year City and Guilds Course in embroidery and
design and this was great fun. Of all the techniques, stump work was my
favourite – I like the idea of the tactile 3D form of the work, particularly
the boxes.
My other interest is painting and in particular, botanical illustration.
I am always happy to discuss possible commissions.
