Meet the Artist

Jenny Cooper, watercolours

I am 57, and have always loved experimenting in different media, taking particular pleasure in the joy of texture and colour in the natural world.
I am mostly self-taught; the closest I came to a training was at King Alfred’s College, Winchester- now the University of Winchester- where art was my specialist subject during Teacher Training, 1969-1972.

Whilst my main job has been teaching in various capacities, whether English as a second language, music, working with children with special needs, and adults too, I have spent much time enabling community groups to do pottery, church artwork such as altar frontals and banners, watercolour, silk painting and many other craft activities.

Over the last few years I have been working with the Christian Charity “Beauty From Ashes”, helping people come to terms with trauma and loss, and find healing through art.

More recently I have begun to develop the sale of cards and posters of my paintings and calligraphy, and moved also into book illustration.

I have exhibited watercolour paintings in Frome Festival (Somerset) in 2003 and 2004, then in July 2005 my own exhibition of watercolours entitled “Dreams and Shadows” was shown in Holy Trinity Church, Frome in the same Festival, and exhibited silk paintings here at Oad Street in 2006 and 2007.
